This book does a wonderful job of sharing the author’s experience and struggles. Although she admits she doesn’t have all of the answers, she attempts to provide advice and empathy for those sharing similar challenges. I enjoyed the candor and pace of the book...If your looking for help in this area of your life, this book is a very good read....

I feel SEEN

Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2021

This is a wonderful and easy read for any parent who has a teenager struggling enough that outpatient therapy has failed and you've made the difficult choice to seek Wilderness therapy or therapeutic boarding school. As a parent you feel so alone. You. have parented with love and intention and tried to help your child with all the traditional methods in the least restrictive setting possible and it has failed. You as a parent may feel like you have failed your child. Like their schools have failed them. Their outpatient therapists. It is very scary to just let go and hand over your child to get help you cannot provide. It feels so isolating because of a combination of stigma and wanting to protect your teens privacy. The people you do confide in don't get it, even if they empathize. AMANDA GETS IT. Amanda even inserts humor. I both laughed and cried reading this. She shares wisdom she learned in doing her own work while her son went through his work outside of the home. There is a lot of practical advice for parents, but more than anything it was so validating and it made me feel less alone. I recommend this to any parent in this situation. It is a quick and easy read, if your brain capacity is just overwhelmed. This one will be easy and provide comfort.

immediately engrossing

Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2021

I was privileged to read this as it was being released. Wow. Immediately became engrossed, had to keep reading. But also, the pain and the growth are evident, and there is often a feeling in the reader of "I know this place you were in". Written with empathy and compassion and a desire to share and make sense of the struggles in parenting. Definitely recommend.

Amanda provides advice, compassion, and empathy for those parents sharing similar challenges with their children. I enjoyed the easy read and pace of the book and will recommend it to my clients.

Honest book about parenting teens

Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2021

This book was very honest, humorous, and heartfelt. The author describes both the actions and the thoughts that occur when parenting a teen that is not-so-easy. I already recommended this book to a friend of mine who is just starting the journey of struggling with her own daughter, particularly because the background seems similar, and there is so much not just about what the author did, but also suggestions for others in similar circumstances.
